Synopsis

When retired history professor Tom Bennett is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he decides to do something he's dreamed about for years: visit all twenty-one of California's historic missions. There is just one problem. His family doesn't want him going alone.

Enter Matt Bennett, Tom's adult son, who has little interest in spending weeks on the road with the father who was too often absent when Matt needed him most. Reluctantly, Matt agrees to drive. Together, they follow the missions north through old California—along coastal highways, wine country, roadside diners, old friends, and the small absurdities of life on the road.
